Interview with Kevin Brewer: ABDC5 Auditions in NYC

"KEVIN BREWER - What the ride has been like since the win?: “It is definitely an unusual thing. I’m not used it… Having people running and screaming and wanting to get autographs is very weird. It’s cool. Very humbling. Initially, it’s like wow. It’s kind of crazy but we kind of got a little used to it…It’s just cool to see the inspiration on people’s faces when they talk to us or when we see them. It’s inspiring us to keep pushing forward and doing what we do ’cause we are ultimately doing it for them.”

What’s it like being an opening act for New Kids on the Block?: “We had come from a circuit where it was dance showcases, so we kind of looked at it from that perspective. In a dance showcase, you’re just a dance crew. People come sit down and they just watch different dance acts. So being an opening act, we kind of didn’t really look at it that way. It’s just business as usual. But the difference is the amount of people, the amount of eyes, we have on us. Being on tour with the New Kids, it really did help sharpen our performance…We are trying to put the dancing [out in] front.”

What’s next for Jabbawockeez?: “Currently, we are enjoying the holidays but once 2010 hits, it’s back to grinding. We got a couple of performances in January, I believe and there are prospects of going international for a while. All that stuff is in the works. I think 2010 will be a good year for us because it’s a blessing that we haven’t gone backwards so far…we have been moving forward. Hopefully, [we'll] keep the wind in our sails and keep going forward. "

AHHHHH! PHIL! LOL

AHHHHHHHHHH! I haven't had a jabba dream in so long! especially a PHIL dream LOL hehhehe. ohkay, so basically I was at school just walking around campus ... and all of a sudden, BOOOOOOM! I see Phil just walking and i'm like "NO FREAKING WAY. WHAT?! NO WAY! AHHHHHHHHHHHHH! PHILLLLLLL! AHHHHHHHHH!" and I start running towards him :D For some reason I thought no one from muh school would know who he is buht apparently EVERYONE knows who he is x] and everyone made a circle around PHIL screaming his name and stuff. Buht the funny thing was, everyone made a circle around PHIL ... buht everyone was so far away from him LOL PHIL was in the middle of the circle buht there was such a big GAP between him and everyone else HAHAHA. I got kinda mad too cuz everyone was screaming for PHIL x] I was like "NOOOO! STOP! HE'S MINE!" LOL and I went uhp to him saying "I'M FROM JABBAFAM!" and he just smiled x] he was really chill ... like he wasn't like scared, overwhelmed, or anything.

OMG and he was dressed so nice too! :'D I think he was wearing a white buttoned uhp shirt with a blue sweater vest ... :D HEHEHEHEH SO FREAKING AHHHH! LOL and then suddenly everyone was gone and it was just meh and him! AHHHHHHHHHHHHHH! HEHHEHHEHE. So I asked him "wait, so how come you're here?" and he was like "i'm doing a show :]" and then that's like all I remember x] AHHHHHHHHHHHHH! HE LOOKS SO FREAKING GOOD OMG buht yeaaaa that's pretty much it :D LOL

OMG I JUST HAD A JABBA DREAM LOLLL. i haven't blogged about one in forever! x] this one is crazyyy though hahahha. ohkay, so i think i was at this hotel ... and at the bottom of the hotel there was a club. Buht, i was trying to go upstairs because i was tired? haha actually i have no idea. ANYWAYS ... so i head for the elevator so i can go upstairs and right when i get to the elevators i see Rynan just staring off into space, sitting down on his luggage with two kids on his lap: a girl and a boy. And the thing is ... the boy looked EXACTLY like Rynan LOLLLL! Like the boy was a mini-me of Rynan HAHAHHAHAHA The elevator was already closing and i was like "WAIT! NO! D:" and then the elevator opened x] I was like "RYNAN! :D" and for some reason i was wearing muh jabbafam shirt .. and i like pointed at it ... WTF LOLLL. Anyways, he was like "HEY! :]" and i was like "OHH! is this your son?" and he was like "yeaa, his mommy is Tila Tequila" ..... o.O HUH? LOLLLL in muh head i was like "aren't yooh married to belle?" buht i guess in this dreamm... he was married to Tila Tequila x] WEIRD. I KNOW. really retarded too.. like seriously? why Tila? LOLL HAHHAHA. Buht anyways ... i guess Rynan was really tired [due to his staring off into space thing] so he wanted to sleep cuz i think he just got back from doing some shows and stuff. So i guess he wanted to sleep in muh hotel room? o.O it was weird cuz there was only ONE bed ... and muh mommy was already sleeping there ... buht he slept there anyways o.O and got Tila to sleep in it too o.O WEIRD AND YUCKY I KNOW. and that's all i remember ... the other stuff is just weird and not relative to Jabbas HAHAHAHHAH buht yeaaaa O.O IT WAS WEIRD. HAHAHAHAHHAHAHH.

"A California dance troupe has been added to this fall’s Gator Growl.
Jabbawockeez is a ten-man group that gained fame on the NBC reality show “America’s Got Talent” before winning the first season of MTV’s “America’s Best Dance Crew.” They join comedian Dana Carvey and the jam band O.A.R. in performing at the Oct. 16 show in Ben Hill Griffin Stadium.

Now in its 86th year, Gator Growl is billed as the world’s largest student-run pep rally. The event is part of the University of Florida’s Homecoming week.

YES JABBA DREAM.

LOL i've been blogging ALOT lately x] Buht last night I had another Jabba dream! Well, I think I was at like a special event and like all the JabbaWockeeZ were there ... buht I got to hangout with Eddie most of the time :] Like we talked and stuff, I caught glimpses of the other Jabbas buht I stayed with Eddie LOL [brings back memories to NKOTB tour haha] And I remember I was talking to Eddie about how I got to have Saso's things because of the moving sale ... and I kept telling him that I wished I could send their scent (from the shirt) to the people in JabbaFamx3OG. LOLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL SO FREAKING WEIRD. And Eddie was like "Yea yooh can! There's something that actually does that now, all yooh gotta do it put this usb near the scent and then put into the computer and then yooh can send it to people" LOLLLLLLLLLLL SUCH A WEIRD DREAM HAHAHAHAHH. That's pretty much what I remember from the dream x] It was so weird HAHAHH, buht it was amazing :D

There’s the homegrown Philippine All Stars, which beat 27 countries to win the 2006 and 2008 World Hip Hop Championships. And then there’s the California-based Jabbawockeez, currently a 10-man group—four of whom are Pinoys—which took the grand prize last year in the inaugural season of the MTV show “America’s Best Dance Crew.”
Jabbawockeez, which took its name from the playful, unconventional Lewis Carroll poem “Jabberwocky,” is in town for a series of Ayala Mall shows, with guests DJ Rashida and Billy Crawford. The last one is tonight, 6 p.m. at Glorietta 4.
Formed in 2003, the group started by competing at local club events in San Diego and LA. It originally had eight members led by Gary Kendall, an American who died just before Jabbawockeez joined “ABDC.” His death spurred the rest—Rynan Paguio, Chris Gatdula, Phil Tayag, Joe Larot (Philippines), Ben Chung (Korea), Jeff Nguyen (Vietnam) and Kevin Brewer (United States) to aim higher.

The Pinoys, happy to be home, sat down for a short chat with the Inquirer:

Did anyone of you attend formal dance school?
Rynan: Most of us just practiced in the garage with friends. We just laid out the linoleum, pretty much like breakdancing … In time we developed a technique. When hip hop started evolving and dance studios began to hire hip hop instructors, we ended up teaching … We adapted what jazz teachers did in their counting …

Is there a leader, or how does the creative process work for the group?
Rainen: There’s no leader … it’s like a potluck where everybody brings in their share …
Phil: It’s like sinigang … or sisig …
Kevin: We collectively put stuff in … as choreographers, the music is the root of it … it sets the mood, tempo and feel of it … If the instrumental is upbeat, then of course our moves will reflect that mood …

Who thought of incorporating mime, kabuki masks and Jeet Kune Do elements into the choreography?
Kevin: We didn’t want people to know who we were so we put on masks. But of course when people can’t see our facial expressions we had to use our bodies and that’s where the mime came in. But it wasn’t our goal to have these elements. We just developed [the whole act]. As for Jeet Kune Do, that’s the philosophy behind the dance, inspired by Bruce Lee. It’s about honestly expressing one’s self through movement.

Has this become a full-time career for the group?
Rynan: Right now it’s our 9 to 5. We’ve set up a company ... if we’re not dancing, we’re rehearsing or working on our clothing line, doing a video, updating the website...

Was that the original goal?
No, we just wanted to dance together and have a good time. It was really Gary who was like the main guy. He always had high hopes and dreams for the group. When he passed away we started to push for that. And we started seeing people get driven by what we do, just by the way we dance.

Is there a Pinoy element at all in your dance moves?
Chris: Well, we’re a little behind the times, but we can do the ocho-ocho.

OMGGGGGGGGG. I had such an amazing day today it was freaking ... AHHHHHHHHHHH! Ohkay first of all, muh friend got to go to Eddie and Saso's moving sale and got meh some stuff! :D AHHHHHHHH! i couldn't go cuz of muh mommy, buht it's ohkay :] OMGGG, muh friend got meh a shirt and three hats OMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOGM. LOL AND I THINK THEY WERE ALL SASO'S STUFF OMGOGMOMGOG LOL. I won't tell like EVERYTHING that happened buht only like the OMGOGOMMOGOM parts :D ohkay so basically muh friend got to go to Eddie and Saso's place without meh cuz i couldn't go -___- buht that's ohkay hahah. OMG, Saso was kinda curious of how muh friend found out about the sale and so Saso asked muh friend:

SASO: "So how'd yooh find out about this?"
FRIEND: "OH, haha yooh know chrystal?"
SASO: "Yea, i know chrystal :]" OMGOMGMOGOGMGMGOGM
FRIEND: "Yea, she told meh about it"
And then he asked why I couldn't come and then she told him. Then, I called muh friend and then I got to talk to freaking SASO OMGOGOGOMOMG.
MEH: "Hello? Saso? :D"
SASO: "Ayy, why aren't yooh here?"
MEH: "cuz I couldn't, muh friends went without meh [LOL, i dunno why i said that]"
SASO: "awhh, ask your friend to get yooh some stuff"
MEH: "what do yooh have? :D"
SASO: "we got a sh*t load of stuff [LOL] like hats, shirts, ..."
MEH: "OMG. CAN I GET SOMETHING?"
SASO: "yeaa! ummm wait here ask your friend" LOLLLLLL OMGGGGG and the entire time I was talking to Saso I had like muh phone in one hand and then muh ice cream cone in the other hand freaking running around in muh room cuz I was FREAKING OUT. Then muh friend said that Eddie was there and I asked muh friend to say hi to him and I heard Eddie go "HI CHRYSTALLLL!!" AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH! :D Yeaaa... that's basically what happened x] hehehhehehh.

Anyways, also ... I was at church and muh friend texted meh saying "SOMEONE put you on their blog" and i was thinking ... "who would put meh on their blog? o.O" LOL. AND THEN OMGOMGOMGOMGGO I checked twitter and PC posted to watch the video on their new post on their website... AND IT WAS MEH WHEN I WAS FREAKING OUT WHEN I GOT THE MOVEMENT'S MIXTAPE!! AHHHHHHHHHHH!! OMGOMGOMGOMGGMOOMGGO and the thing is ... PC put "A friend sent me the link..." LOLLLL I'M THE ONE WHO SENT HIM THAT LINK! so... i'm his friend? :D AHHHHHHHHHHHHHH! YAYYYYYYYYYYYYYY! LOL. yeaaaa, pretty much x] HEHEHEHEHHEHEHHEH.

INTERVIEW: LOU E. ALBANO

You've all heard about the Jabbawockeez, yes? The dance group from the US with Pinoy members? The be-masked group who danced with Shaquille O'Neal at the NBA All-Stars 2009? FHM nabbed an exclusive interview with them boys right before they came over! That's right, the Jabbawockeez are in town! Familiarize yourselves with them Jabbawockeez before they jabbfy you.

How did Jabbawockeez start?

Kevin Brewer: Jabbawockeez was officially formed in San Diego in 2003. It was born out of the need for us to express ourselves through music on our own terms, an outlet for us to be creative. Jabbawockeez was formed in a very organic way. We were a bunch of homiers that freestyled with each other all the time.

Joe Larot: There were eight original members: Randy, Gary [Kendall], Ryan, Chris [Gatdula], Rainen [Paguio], Joe [Larot], Phil [Tayag], Keibee [Brewer]. Ryan was young and moved away with his family. After our debut, we added Saso [Jimenez] and Eddie [Gutierrez]. In 2004, we met Phil through a show in LA and battled him in the crew. The last member to be battled in was Ben [Chung]. We've all been friends through the dance community for years.

The JabbaWockeeZ updated their twitter today telling everyone that they arrived safely in the Philippines and will be making appearances on Wowowee and ASAP! Make sure to tune into the filipino channel to find these masked men!

First Day of Senior Year

OMG first of all, i'm so freaking happy for susie because she just had the most amazing two days ever ... and i'm just glad that it happened to her! Buht anyways ... haha of course muh day started with the JabbaWockeeZ heheh. Buht anyways, it was so weird getting ready to go to school again haha. Once I got to school I went straight to muh locker [muh ugly located poopoo locker] buht ... once I got there, there was already a lock on it o.O I was like "are yooh freaking keeding meh right now?" cuz I was carrying a bunch of books so I had to go to the administration office to tell them that someone took muh locker LOL. The lady in charge started laughing because she knew that I had a bad locker HAHA. Seriously ... who would take muh locker? x] It was nice seeing everyone again :] Everyone looks so different and so much older! Haha.

Ceramics was muh first class of the day! AHH! I made a new friend hehe she's pretty dope :] Buht yeaaa, I like know ALOT of people in muh classes this time around... unlike last year LOL I was a freaking loner ROFL. Buht let's see tomorrow if it's the same thing as today :] Pre-cal was kinda boring ... LOL I already started to fall asleep cuz it was so boring. Buht I got to talk to people I don't usually talk to, which is pretty much what I want to do all year long :D Then freaking physics ... OMG I didn't know that I changed teachers because I didn't check muh schedule so I was like running around trying to find muh teacher ... and there was a teacher trying to help meh out to find muh class ... turns out, the teacher that was helping meh ... WAS MUH TEACHER LOL. Buht it's all good :]

AND WTF? CHRISSY? LOL that is NOT muh name ... HAHA I don't even look like a Chrissy LOL.

JabbaWockeeZ on ASAP!

The JabbaWockeeZ will be performing with Billy Crawford next week [September 5, 2009] on ASAP! This is a show on the filipino channel so ... TO ALL THE FILIPINOS THAT HAVE TFC ... WATCH IT! Haha. and to everyone else ... i'm pretty sure SOMEONE will put it on youtube LOL.

Three days ago, before I left for retreat I had an AMAZING jabba dream :D Well, the JabbaWockeeZ were on America's Best Dance Crew again! There were only 6 members like before ... except instead of Rynan, Randy took his place :] Randy took Rynan's place because Rynan was a judge for the show :D And when they performed ... OMG THEIR CHOREO AND MOVES AND EVERYTHING WAS LIKE BEYOND AMAZING LIKE I CAN'T BELIEVE I DREAMED SUCH AMAZINGNESS... OMG and like there was a portion of their performance that they danced without their masks and yooh can see their faces! :D and they did pelvic thrusts and bodyrolls ... OMGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG LOL AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH! One of the bests dreams EVERR! x] hahahaha. I would go into more detail buht it was just too amazing LOL

Dang, I've been having alot of Jabba dreams lately haha x] it's ohkay :D THEY MAKE MEH HAPPY! LOL Well, this one was kinda short cuz I had to wake uhp early and I kinda slept late ... LOL soooo I guess I was watching some show and I was in like a stadium type thing and two jabbas were sitting right in front of meh ... like I didn't know who they were though. From the back of their heads ... it looked weird ROFL. Like their heads were deformed or something ROFL WTF? Buht they're beautiful in real life so it doesn't matter HHAHAHAHHAH. So, I wanted to know which jabbas were sitting infront of meh so I tapped one person on the shoulder and it was RYNAN! :D and PHIL was right next to him ! :DDDD HEHEHEHHHE Right after I touched rynan he went "OMG! JABBAFAM TOUCHED MEH!" o.O and he reacted like how I would react if they would touch meh ... like crazy smiley and hyper and YAYY! :D HAHAHA I was laughing at him! x] ROFL and I was like "I can't wait 'til I get home x]" so I could tell jabbafam what happened LOL AHAHAHAHHAHHAHAHAHAH ohhhmann... that's it :[ LOL, it was a short dream buht it was so freaking amazing! :D HAHAHAH

AYY AYY!

YESSS! Another jabba dream, haha x] Well, I guess I was living in downtown so basically I just walked to the places I wanted to go to and I think the JabbaWockeeZ were performing at one of the buildings here in downtown. I spot PHIL :D and another guy [who was in JabbaWockeeZ, buht he's not really a Jabba in real life LOL] who were in their Jabba attire except they didn't have their masks on. It was funny cuz they were wearing their old school original Jabba tees, the red stack tee :] haha. I saw PHIL :D and he saw meh and we hugged x] and then we started walking together HEHEHHEHEH. I guess we were walking to the place where the Jabbas were gonna perform. By the way, the other guy went somewhere else LOOLL I dunno where he went x] Buht anyways ... so i'm just walking in downtown talking with PHIL and then all of a sudden he like busts out with a like small makeuhp bag ... and i was like " o.O uhh... " and he takes out these chopsticks type things and starts cleaning his teeth with them o.O and I was fine with it [i guess] cuz I said "well, it's good that yooh always wanna be clean :D" ROFL WOW. OMGGGGGGGGGGGG by the way, the entire time PHIL is just smiling away OMGGGGGGGGGG AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH! hahaha x] and that's pretty much all I can remember ... LOLLLL buht I dreamt about other stuff before PHIL cuz I guess I saved him for last hehhehe.

Buht to tell the rest of muh dream in a very quick manner ... SoRealCru was giving a workshop in downtown and I saw Brian Puspos and I told him that he's so much taller than the last time I saw him LOL and then this other girl from SoRealCru [who isn't REALLY in SoRealCru LOL] we started to talk and we became really good friends and she told meh to comment her on myspace so we talk and hangout and stuff :D LOL WEIRD. I DUNNO. I think I told her she was tall also ... o.O I DUNNO AHHAHAHA buht yeaaa that was the rest of muh dream x] PHIL'S part was better ... HEHEHHEHHEHE YAYYYY! :D

DANG! All about them JBWKZ&KNGDM!

AHHHHHHHHHHHH! I had another dream about the jabbas ... It's been awhile since i've last had one x] buht this time PC was there too! I don't know where Kilo was though :[ Well anyways ... soooo I guess I was meeting the guys at the gym and for some reason I brought muh mom along o.O LOL So when we were first got to the gym ... I see Joe! He looked at meh and recognized meh ... buht we didn't say anything to each other, and Joe thought meh and muh mom were going inside the gym already buht we weren't ... so he started talking to muh mom like casually. Talking normally like how yooh would to a stranger, and everytime Joe said something ... muh mom would go "HUH? o.O *with filipino accent*" LOL and after a while I was just like "Mom, he's just being nice. Bye Joe! :]" And then that's when Joe realized I was from JabbaFam LOL. Buht he was already inside the gym and I was already on muh way to meet the rest of the guys :D

I was telling muh mom that the guy she was talking to was Joe from the JabbaWockeeZ and she was like "OHHH!!" and then I pointed to the rest of the guys buht it was only 5 of them who were coming our way. So I was telling muh mom "those are some of the other JabbaWockeeZ over there :D" I think it was Ben, Phi, Kevin, Cris, and Phil and then PC. OMG PHIL. LOL Right when I saw him ... I like fast walked to him with muh arms reaching out [ROFL] all jumpy and smiley LOL And when PHIL saw meh... he started laughing and smiling like crazy and he gave meh a hug and was like "HAHA I remember yooh!" AND I WAS LIKE "YOOH DO? o.O" and he was like "haha, of course :D" OMGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG I can never forget that SMILE and LAUGH OMGGGGGGGGGG AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH! LOL And then I saw PC and I was like "OMG! You're here! I've been wanting to meet yooh so bad!" And he looked at meh like he was shocked. He's just too modest and humble LOL I kept hitting PC's arm for some reason .... HAHAH. And there was this girl with PC ... I think she worked for KNGDM or something haha. PHIL told the girl to introduce herself to meh so we shook hands and she said her name was Elena. Buht Phil said to Elena "Yooh can do better than that! Introduce yourself again :]" and I told her muh name as well. It was weird LOL Phil told her to introduce herself like 4 times cuz apparently saying her name wasn't good enough HAHAHA.

So I was walking with the guys and I told them the incident that Joe had with muh mom and they laughed so freaking hard cuz of the way i said "HUH? o.O" with a filipino accent BAHAHAHA. And then we all went into the gym and then it got all weird after that and I don't really know what happened buht anyways ... THAT WAS SUCH AN AMAZING DREAM! :D YAYYYYYYYYYY! x] hehehehhehe. I think I dreamt about the gym because Kilo tweeted about the gym yesterdae LOL.

Today was a pretty good day :] JabbaWockeeZ EVERYWHERE! :DDD HEHEHE Mostly because MTV had a season 3 marathon today ... and the Jabbas were like in the audience, part of the show, guest judging, part of challenges ... YUP. I was so happy x] PLUS! MTV had a "Top 10 Performances" of all three seasons of America's Best Dance Crew :D And i'm so happy and glad the JabbaWockeeZ got number one :D heheheh. OMG and then today on twitter ... Kilo answered muh question :DDD AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH! I WAS SO HAPPY HEHEHHEHEH x] Buht yeaaaaaaa, I will never get tired of them Jabbas and KNGDM :D Be thankful for what yooh have, and never take things for granted. Live life to the fullest and go beyond boundaries :] Just something to think about ... :]
